Art Work by Carolyn Albracht

Color and line are the dominant elements in my work. Figures and felines are the dominant subject. I produce what I know and what I like. I search for a bit of humor and hope that others find the humor in my finished drawings. The boldness of color and the way in which the lines lie together on the paper please my visual sense. I like pressing the oil pastel firmly on the paper, gliding and sometimes delicately scratching the surface, colors pushing against one another, colliding and making variations of themselves. I find a certain relaxation when I am drawing and coloring; nothing else exists, just my colors and me. I have found that if I go for long periods of time without producing something visual, I get cranky. I have a sense of dissatisfaction about everything until I make time to create again. I make art because I need to make art. I suppose this is the essence of being an artist-the need to create, not just the desire.
