Mission
L'eglise Art Center & Gallery aims
to provide an educational and aesthetic atmosphere for the visual arts
to all ages and interest levels in the community. L'eglise achieves these
aims through a variety of programs for children, teens and adults, and
through the monthly display of visual art created by regional and national
artists. |

The Gallery Since opening its doors in September 2003, L'eglise Gallery has hosted a variety of exhibits including artists from central and eastern Nebraska and beyond. The gallery hosts one-, two-, and three-month exhibits featuring several artists per exhibit. The gallery is a modest space, encompassing 60 feet of wall space, and provides limited accommodations for sculpture. The gallery actively seeks artists to exhibit, and welcomes inquiries from emerging and established artists. L'eglise enjoys collaborative opportunities for exhibition as well, and has hosted Grand Island's Prairie Winds Art Center traveling show and Nebraska's 2003 Governor's Mansion traveling exhibit. In Feb 2005, L'eglise organized the exhibit "Art from the Heart", a collaborative effort with the Central District Health Department to help build awareness about women's heart health risks.

History L'eglise Art Center & Gallery was born in the lower level of an historic church built in 1912 in Aurora, Nebraska. While it experiences the expected growing pains, it is enjoying a happy childhood. L'eglise Art Center & Gallery is the brain-child of Carolyn Albracht, an artist, educator, and now gallery owner. Carolyn and spouse, Wayne Briner, purchased the building in Spring 2002 and moved their residence and art studios to the upper level of the building. After Carolyn completed her Masters degree in Museum Studies at UNL in Spring 2003, plans to open L'eglise Art Center & Gallery quickly followed. The first children's classes were offered late Summer 2003, and the opening exhibit, "A Harvest of Women", was installed shortly after, in September. L'eglise Art Center & Gallery continues to expand
its programs and exhibitions, steadily working toward its mission as an
"educational and aesthetic atmosphere for the visual arts."
Visitors are greeted by brightly painted orange, blue and teal colored
walls, a Jackson Pollock-style painted floor and three friendly cats,
Mechu, Charon and Pluto. |
